Welcome to the Transforming Wigan Movement.
I am privileged to be the Mission Director of this audacious initiative to revive the spiritual heart of Wigan. As you walk around this borough you glimpse images of a rich past, a hardworking people, a proud history of mills and mines, tight caring communities, and an underlying expectation of a better future for all generations.
The Transforming Wigan movement is a C of E sponsored initiative, from 2015 through to 2021, which aims to turn around the mission strength of the Church in Wigan and to transfer learning and good practice to other parts of the Diocese of Liverpool.
Wigan Council has a strap line on all signs within the borough calling on people to 'Believe' and with a radically dedicated Council the theme is one of a better deal for everyone.
Paul Bayes, Bishop of Liverpool says:
“Transforming Wigan is a ground-breaking project vital to the church and our diocese as we pursue our growth agenda. In Tim we have an excellent, experienced priest and leader who will provide clear strategic direction. There are many challenges ahead. If we are to find ways for be fit for mission and make a bigger difference in the community we need to find the things that work and not cling onto old models if they are clearly not working. Jesus has for us a transforming gospel and my prayer is that through Tim and the Transforming Wigan group we will find ways to reinvent and re-imagine church for the 21st Century. I, and colleagues in the national Church, will be following the progress with keen interest.”
