This is our COREgroup theme from Easter to Pentecost and takes us from the victory of the cross and resurrection, through the ascension of Jesus to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on those first disciples empowering them to make and grow many more disciples.

As you journey this season together in your existing COREgroup or in a new one know that God will meet with you by his Spirit and he will encourage, comfort and challenge you as you commit to this journey together. Remember to recognize the presence of Jesus with you not only when you meet together but also as you live your life every day wherever you are and with whoever is alongside you.

This theme of ‘Breakout’ brings us to the climactic festival of Pentecost. You will know that we have a huge opportunity on Pentecost Sunday – May 15th – with our ‘Soul in the Park’ celebration. We are literally ‘breaking out’ of our church buildings that day and gathering together as one church in Wigan to worship and celebrate God’s outpouring of love and salvation upon all people. We cannot confine the blessings of God to our buildings and services. We must enable the breakout of the Spirit to all people … and this is what we will be declaring and celebrating on Pentecost Sunday in Alexandra Park. You can find out more about this event here.

So over these next six weeks we will journey with those downhearted disciples on their way to Emmaus and discover what made their hearts burn and cause them to run with purpose. We will spend two sessions with that great prophet Elijah who presided at the bonfire breakout of God’s power, but then experienced personal breakdown in a cave until God caused his breakout.

In the middle of this series we have the opportunity to come together for one of the ‘Deeper Discipleship’ evenings – on either the 18th, 19th, or 20th of April – when the theme of breaking out the treasure will be cracked open by Tim. Bring your COREgroup and as many other disciples from your church as possible to one of these evenings. For more information on venues and timings go here.

As we draw nearer to Pentecost we explore more of who we really are in Christ – our new nature and workmanship – and we find that we are created anew in Christ Jesus so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
